How does ODBscript detects if it was invoked from DOS-shell or form CGI

My Application: ODBScript is run as a "DOS-program" which is called from a perl script. The scrip adds variables to execute different queries and saves the result in a file using the -i and -o parameter.
My Problem: This works fine as long as the perl script is called from shell or from the Scheduler. However if it was called from the web-server it detects CGI environment and fails. This might be, because the invoked process inherits everything from the calling process.
My Question: How can I pretend ODBscript to behave like in DOS mode for this situation? Any Environment-Variable to set or delete?
