As Gordon mentioned,   ("non-breaking space" character) will solve the problem because the cell won't really be "empty" then -- it will have a forced space character in it. If you are displaying columns of data that are selected from a database and some of them may be empty, then the $nbsp( ) function is specifically designed to easily deal with that specific problem. The function $nbsp($variable$) will output the value of the variable if there is a value, or it will output the special character code   if the variable does not have a value.
