Creating an asynchronous process

by Max Steiner, September 8, 2007 13:08

Is there anyway to invoke a process that runs in the background instead of being dependent on the web browser? When my customers purchase very large amounts of product, the process to create the order can sometimes take rather long, they get impatient and hit the refresh button on the browser which ends up really messing things up. I would like to have the process of creating the order and removing the inventory from the database run in the background so it doesn't tie up the browser response time and also doesn't allow for them to interrupt the process.

If this isn't possible, does anyone else have any ideas?
