FYI only, I am not an Oracle person by any means, but I have been having very similar problems. I can connect to several other db's and was able to connect to a previous versions orf Oracle through a systems DNS. But since trying the Oracle 8 ODBC drivers I can not get anything to work. My work around was to schedule a Access database query and append nightly and then connect my search queries from there. Sorry I am no help but I have spent many hours working on this but no luck yet. I am hoping to get some Oracle IT friends help in the next month or two. I will let you know if I figure anything out.
